Wycliffe Gordon plays with a rich and burnished sound, is capable of robustly rollicking performances and those of passionate intensity. He has also composed several interesting and well-crafted pieces. In 2000, he was acknowledged as Best Trombonist in the Jazz Journalists Association’s Jazz Awards, and Trombone Talent Deserving Wider Recognition in the DownBeat Critics Poll.
